Minister commends Prefos Limited

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, has commended the management of Prefos Company Limited for the bold decision to establish a street bulb assembling plant locally.

He noted that this would not only help to make it easier for the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) to install and maintain streetlights in the communities, but also importantly, create employment for the youth.

Mr Sarpong gave the commendation, when he together with some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Region, toured the plant at Adako-Jachie in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.

The first of its kind to be set up in the country, the plant has the capacity to assemble 500 pieces of street bulbs a day, to support on-going nationwide street lighting project.

The Minister said the establishment of a training school alongside the plant, to assist the assemblies train the youth in their areas, to repair and maintain the streetlights was another step in the right direction.

The school would offer employable skills to the young people and he suggested its incorporation into the youth entrepreneurial programmes of the government to train more people in electrical and wiring.

Mr. Sarpong pledged the support of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to the company to sustain it on the path of growth to become a leading assembling plant not only in Ghana, but Africa.

Mr Alexie Kwasi Fosu, Managing Director, said quality imported components from Europe were being used to assemble the bulbs.

He said the training school was to make sure that the streetlights were properly maintained.
