Manhyia MP slams Edu. Minister over GETFUND directive

Member of Parliament for the Manhyia constituency in the Ashanti region, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has raised red flags over a purported directive from the Education Ministry to GETFUND for the payment of judgment debts.

The NPP MP has also accused the Education Minister, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman of illegally authorizing the payments to some private entities without approval from parliament.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh has warned that the Ministry’s budget for 2015 will not be approved unless the Minister withdraws the directive to GETFUND.

Speaking on Morning Starr to hosts, Kafui Dey and Jackie Ankrah, on Starr 103.5FM Opoku-Prempeh said the Minister’s actions undermine the authority of parliament.

“The GETFUND budget is particularly and especially approved by parliament with item lines where the money should be used for” the Manhyia MP said.

He added that “so when the minister purports to undermine Parliament by giving instructions contrary to what Parliament has given to GETFUND what does she mean, she thinks she is higher than Parliament or seeks to undermine the authority of Parliament”.
