Vice President Observes Remembrance Day

Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur, today 11th November at 11 0clock thus 11 11 11 observed a wreath-laying ceremony at the Christianborg Memorial Ark to remember all the departed heroes of the land.

He laid a wreath on behalf of government and people of Ghana at a programme that attracted officers and men from all the security services.

John Benjamin, British High Commissioner, laid a wreath on behalf of the Commonwealth and Allied countries, while Chief of Defence staff Vice Admiral Mathew Quashie laid another on behalf of the security services.

Commodore (rtd) Steve Obimbeh laid another wreath on behalf of the Veterans and Ex-servicemen, while Nii Kinka Dowuona, Osu Mantse and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps laid two others on behalf of chiefs and people of Osu and the diplomatic corps respectively.

The Remembrance Day is observed annually to commemorate all the past heroes that lost their lives in the first and second world wars, while defending their citizenry and beyond.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur observed a moment of silence after laying a wreath in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the 2nd world wars.

Over 1,800 members of the commonwealth lost their lives in the two world wars in which most of the casualties were from the West African forces.

Such heroes commemorated in seven sites in Ghana and maintain nine foreign graves and 48 non-world war graves. Although such cemeteries are supervised by the military throughout the country.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur also signed the book on condolence on behalf of the people of Ghana and later interacted with the veterans .
