Al Ain released Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan for this month’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier despite the uncertainty surrounding his fitness.

The 28-year-old has not played a competitive game for his UAE club for over three weeks, as he continues to work his way to full recovery from a thigh injury.

Gyan has returned to full-scale training for over a week, but was considered not fit enough to feature for Al Ain in their UAE Cup defeat to Al Jazira last Thursday.

Al Ain has however confirmed they have released the former Sunderland hitman to join the Black Stars for the final round of 2015 AFCON qualifiers against Uganda and Togo.

“Gyan is scheduled to join his team on [November] 11 to face Uganda in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next Saturday,” the club posted on their official Twitter page.

It is however unclear if Gyan will be involved in this month’s double-header with the Black Stars squad yet to be officially released though invitations have been sent.

The former Udinese and Stade Rennes man is arguably the most important player to the Black Stars.

He is currently among the leading scorers in this qualifying campaign with three goals.

His absence will thus serve as a major blow for the Ghana team who may only require a point from the remaining two games to book its place in next year’s finals.
