Gov’t commends Tigo's support to youth

The Deputy Minister for Communications, Edward Ato Sarpong has commended Tigo Ghana for leading the way to support young tech entrepreneurs that are poised to create digital solutions to solve some of the country’s problems.

Highlighting technology as an essential tool for economic growth, he said: “Government is investing in fibre infrastructure, LTE and data centre to make sure that the environment is favourable to enable young people to flourish.”

Speaking to reporters at the launch of Tigo Digital Change Makers competition in Accra, the Minister stated that investing in young people was a worthy cause because they were the future leaders.

“Tigo is complementing our efforts to resource young people in the country and contributing to national development, especially in the delivery of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).”

Tigo Digital Changemakers is a social entrepreneurship programme aimed at identifying and empowering young Ghanaians with innovative digital solutions to improve lives.

According to Tigo, the two top winners would each receive a funding grant of US$S20, 000 and expert guidance and support to bring their ideas to life.

The winners would also benefit from a network of existing social entrepreneurs who would guide them and share their expertise on running social change projects.

The launch featured students from Ashesi University, Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), the tech community and social entrepreneurs.
