GAFA receives boost ahead of WC

The Ghana Amputee Football Association (GAFA) received a boost from supporters ahead of its participation in the Amputee World Cup in Mexico, November.

Alive & Kicking, a charitable organisation in U.K that uses its outfit to promote disabled sports and creates employment opportunities for the youth had donated 30 balls to the team as part of its outfit’s social responsibility.

Freedom supporters union merged with Global Paints and Costumes Supporters union to present a dozen training football boots, two sets of training vest, sheen guards, keepers gloves, two footballs, and 15 pair of crotches, food items and supporting need items at an estimated cost of 5,000 Ghana cedis.

President of GAFA, Richard Nii Mantey Adesan assured the donors that, the support showed them won’t be in vain and called on other corporate entities to come on board to make their participation at the World Cup a success.

Alex Tetteh, chairman of a seven member Interim Management Committee of GAFA reiterated that, corporate bodies support is needed to achieve the ultimate.

He said “we pledge that, what the able couldn’t do, the disable are prepared to do it. Though, the Black Stars couldn’t do well in the World Cup, we shouldn’t count all hope lost because we will make Ghana shine again in the world.

"We can use amputee to advocate for a lot of things by educating people with disabilities that they can do a lot for themselves by engaging in sports.”

Emmanuel Akpabli and George Nyame representatives of Freedom supporters union and Global Paints and Costumes supporters union encouraged the team.

The Black Challenge is housed in Group C alongside Turkey, Nigeria and Russia.
