Former NSS boss goes after 'Daily Guide'

The immediate Former Executive Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu, is in arms against the 'Daily Guide' over a front page news item the paper carried on 30th October, 2014.

Sources close to him told this paper that he is heading to court, having directed his lawyers, A-PARTNERS@LAW to sue the pro-NPP newspaper for libel. A-PARTNERS@LAW is the law chamber of Samson Lardi Ayeyeni of JOY FM fame. This paper learnt that though the news item the pro-NPP paper carried under the heading "ROT at NSS: Former Director Grabs Five Mansions' did not directly mention Vincent Kuagbenu by name, he and his lawyers are asserting that every aspect of the story indicates that he was the one the paper was referring to.

The paper alleged among others that "a former Executive Director of the organization acquired not less than five houses in four years before he was removed". It went on to claim that "Shortly after his removal from office, some concerned members of staff of the NSS wrote to President John Mahama to institute a probe into the activities of the NSS boss and purge the scheme of the "institutionalized thievery and naked robbery of stated funds by him and his cohorts".

The 'Daily Guide' further claimed that" the said the former NSS boss lived far above his means, acquiring flashy, expensive and luxurious cars – Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Saloon Cars, among others – as well as mansions in Abokobi, Oyarifa, Trade Fair Site, ACP Estates at Pokuase, Sakumono and other places in Accra."

The NSS has been in the news in recent times after a directive by President Mahama to the BNI to investigate happenings there uncovered gigantic fraud that has led to the arrest of some senior officials of the secretariat. Mr. Vincent Kuagbenu, was however not mentioned, cited or indicted by the report of the investigations for any wrong doing.
