Pele to watch Ghana in friendly against Nigeria

World football icon Pele, has been invited to witness Nigeria’s international friendly against Ghana being used to commission the newly-built stadium in Uyo.

The Brazilian superstar is amongst several high profile dignitaries including Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan invited to the official opening of the 30,000 ultra-modern Akwa Ibon International Stadium.

The match which is being recorded as a full international friendly will unfortunately not feature any of the most prominent players from both sides due to their involvement in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.

The home-based senior sides – used for the CHAN tournament – will thus be used for this friendly match.

The newly built 30,000 capacity stadium will host the Super Eagles 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on November 19.

The edifice was built to bear similarities with Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, the Bird Nest Stadium in Beijing China, and the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
