Ayew secures win for Lorient, Mensah sees red

The Black Stars striker continued his fine form after scoring his second consecutive goal to help Lorient qualify into the next round in the French Coup de La Ligue

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew grabbed the headlines after sending Lorient into the next stage of the French Coup de Ligue with the match winner in a 2-1 victory over Evian Thonon Gaillard.

The 23-year-old snatched the priceless goal in the 76th minute to secure victory after Evian drew the first blood in the 7th minute with a wonderful strike from Daniel Wass but Valentin Lavigne brought Lorient even nine minutes later.

Ayew stole the night for Lorient with a fine finish to beat goalkeeper Benjamin Leroy before making way for team-mate Benjamin Jeannot two minutes later.

Ghanaian and Evian defender Jonathan Mensah was sent off. He had his second yellow of the night in the 58th minute for an unsporting behaviour.
