GRA confiscates 183 uncustomed vehicles

The Northern Command of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has confiscated 183 uncustomed vehicles.

Most of the seized cars were bought by unsuspecting customers who did not authenticate the veracity of the documents of the car.

The sector commander, Mr Kofi Toffah, made this known at a sensitisation workshop for a section of the media in Kumasi.

The day’s workshop was to get the media well informed about the operations of the division as well equipping them to be able to disseminate their operations to the public.

Participants were taken through the activities of the divisions, as well as its achievements and challenges.

Consequently, he advised car dealers and buyers to seek for clarification and verification from the offices of the division to avoid problems.

Mr Toffah, who is a past commandant of Customs training school, also advised the public to readily provide information about smuggling activities in the country.

“An informant shall be rewarded with 25% of sales accrued from the smuggled goods,” he added.

According to him, some of these buyers do not have any idea as to how these problems came by but had to bear the consequence of a crime they did not commit.

Mr Toffah also revealed that the customs division lacks personnel and logistics, a situation he said directly or indirectly affects their performance and output.

He revealed that the division has a total workforce of 3,400 and the last recruitment was made this year.

He therefore appealed to the government to recruit more personnel into the division.
