Ghana must emulate best oil and gas practices - Forum

Participants at oil and gas forum on Tuesday called on government to emulate best practices governing oil exploration, development and production in countries that are doing well with this natural resource.

Countries like Norway, Sierra Leone, Angola, Brazil and South Sudan had almost perfect laws that had helped them to avoid the resource curse.

This came up at a forum organised by Friends of the Nation (FoN), a non-governmental organisation with other partners in Takoradi to engage stakeholders on the legislative and regulatory framework to maximize benefits from petroleum resources.

Mr. Kyei Yamoah of FoN said, there were lots of issues regarding contracting, employment, local content and proper investment in oil and gas projects that needed to be tackled.

"Ghana therefore, needs a robust law to ensure transparency in the sector," he said.
