Induction programme for Chief Directors

The Office of the Head of Civil Service has institutionalised the induction programme for Chief Directors to serve as a platform for discussion on key national policy issues.

Nana Agyekum Dwemena, Acting Head of Civil Service, said the programme would afford the Chief Directors the opportunity to discuss cost effective and pragmatic ways of dealing with problems in the Service.

He said it was in recognition of the primary importance of the human capital that, the Office of the Head of Civil Service is emphasising on the need for the implementation of a broad-based training and development policy that would enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies plan and administer on a continuous basis relevant and appropriate interventions towards effective service delivery.

Nana Dwamena announced this on Monday in Accra at the opening session of a five-day induction course for new Chief Directors of the various ministries, with sponsorship from Denmark.

He said the Civil Service is the nerve centre of government machinery and of great importance in governance arrangement and the process of nation building.

“It is in this direction that maximum attention shall be paid to the totality of service not only by government but also by all stakeholders in renewing the capacity and performance level of the staff.

“It is for this reason among others that the Office of the Head of Civil Service continues to collaborate with the Public Services Commission and also with other many institutions to develop skills and capacities in the Service,” he said.

Nana Dwemena also announced that the Civil Service Training Centre had introduced new training programmes in Leadership, Management and General Administration, Electronic Records Management, Information and Communication Technology.

He said the new programmes would help develop the Civil Service to equip officers to meet some of the complex demands of the modern public Service.
