Farmers cry for subsidized fertilizer in Upper Manya

Many farmers in the Upper Manya Krobo District are complaining about the non availability of subsidized fertilizers for farming and said this is affecting their yields.

A farmer who spoke on condition of anonymity to the Ghana News Agency (GNA)Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Project team said for the whole of this year, farmers in the district had not receive any subsidized fertilizer to buy.

He said prices of agriculture inputs had shot up with a bag of NPK fertilizer that was sold at GH¢50.00 is now sold at GH¢100.00.

He said the farmers had been using their farm lands for years and it was fertilizer that was helping them to increase their yields and at the current prices, many farmers would not be able to buy all that they require for their farms.

The farmer appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to come to the aid of the farmers by bringing back the subsidized fertilizer into the system.

A source at the Ministry Of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in the District confirmed the story and said throughout the year the district had not received any subsidized fertilizer and farmers continue to come to the office in search of the subsidized fertilizer.
