It’s an honour to be in gov’t – Spio

Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has described as a “privilege”, his appointment in government to work with “distinguished and capable” fellow appointees.

“It’s really an honour and a privilege for me to have been invited by Your Excellency to join the government of Ghana and to work alongside many distinguished and capable colleagues to advance the progress of this country, especially, to lift up the standards of living and quality of life of our people,” the just-sworn in Minister of Trade and Industries said Thursday.

According to him, “one always comes into these offices with a sense of humility because it is not everybody who gets an opportunity to serve this nation in capacities such as this.”

The former Communication Minister in the Rawlings administration fell out with the governing National Democratic Congress in 2009 after he described some of President John Mills’ (late) appointees as a bunch of ‘Team B’ players, who were given jobs in government by dint of their feigned loyalty.

President Mahama, however, nominated the former CEO of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation (CTO) as a Minister-designate during his last ministerial reshuffle.
