Mahama: Ghana-Nigeria must work together more

Bettor co-orporation between Ghana and Nigeria could create an economic hub that could carry the whole of West Africa along, Ghana’s President has said.

According to John Mahama, the two West African neighbours must begin to share ideas more and work together than before, in all sectors, towards achieving that.

He told an audience at the launch of the First Bank of Nigeria (FBN), which recently acquired 100 percent of the International Commercial Bank (ICB), that: “I think what has happened in the financial sector in respect of Ghana and Nigeria is something that we should replicate in other sectors”.

“We all have comparative advantages and I believe that every sector should be opened for co-orporation between the two countries”, the Ghanaian President suggested.

He observed that apart from being neighbours with a common history and colonial experience, “…We have the opportunities as the two biggest economies in West Africa…Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa and Ghana is the second-largest economy in West Africa, and between the two, if we promoted the issue of integration, I’m sure that we can carry the whole of the West African sub-region along. We have common historical links and that should create the bases for us to build upon our economic relations”.
