Seminar On Divestiture Of State-Owned Enterprises

A Presidential Staffer, Mr.. D.S. Boateng has urged members of Parliament, who are representatives of the people, to do everything possible to make the divestiture implementation committee's policy work. He therefore, stressed the need for consensus building and commitment to ensure its effective and efficient implementation. Mr.. Boateng was addressing the closing ceremony of a two-day seminar for two Parliamentary Committees on the divestiture of state-owned enterprises at Akosombo. It was organised by the Divestiture Implementation Committee. About 50 members of the Public Accounts Committee and Finance Committee attended the seminar. Mr.. Boateng urged the Divestiture Implementation Committee to initiate an appropriate follow-up action to review PNDC Law 326 so that it would clearly and transparently set out the procedures and processes of divestiture of state-owned enterprises. He expressed the hope that the D.I.C. could count on the expert advice and guidance of the two Standing Committees of Parliament. Mr. Boateng noted that the policy of privatization has never been easy and smooth in any country be it developed or developing. He stressed the need for the policy to work for it to achieve the objectives of reducing the size of the public sector to make government concentrate on its prime function of governance. gri
