Kotoko, Hearts wooing Sumaila back to Ghana

Goal can exclusively reveal that Mamelodi Sundowns are likely to lose Rashid Sumaila to one of the Ghanaian clubs in the upcoming weeks.

The 21-year-old defender is out in the cold after he was deemed surplus to requirements at the Chlookop club this season, but he is looking to return home.

According to a reliable source within the Brazilians camp, Sumaila is eager to sign a short term contract with one of the clubs in Ghana to enhance his chances of playing in next year's Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

"He remains a Sundowns player, but he is eager to return to Ghana because two teams have already made inquiries to the club," the source told Goal.

"It is understandable because he wants to keep his place in the national team and also enhance his chances for next year's Afcon in Morocco," the source continued.

The reported "two teams" Sumaila is linked with are thought to be Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, but it remains to be seen if Sundowns will be interested in releasing the player as he is still contracted to them.

Goal reported last week that Sumaila was in talks with Sundowns over his situation and that the two parties were negotiating a settlement that will see the Ghanaian-born star terminate his contract with the Tshwane giants.
