We will prove Mahama’s competence to NPP in 2016 – NDC Guru

Eric Ametor Quarme, a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Communications team says in the face of a rather stricken economy and the dwindling value of the cedi as against the US Dollar and other foreign currencies, the Mahama government has managed to initiate policies and seen to the execution of several infrastructure improvement projects.

He has therefore implored Ghanaians to stop painting gloomy imageries of the country’s economy.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Ametor Quarme stressed that the Mahama administration is indeed on top of national issues and so, insisted that the economy is not so challenged; as depicted by opponents of the government.

Though noting down the steep decline in the cedi, Ametor Quarme however expressed hope in the nation's currency.

According to him, the Mahama government used the same “widely-criticized” cedi by opposition parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party, to build hospitals and also improve water distribution systems in communities in the capital city.

He further stated that despite criticisms about the cedi depreciation, government, under the leadership of President John Mahama; has even broken grounds for the commencement of work on the expansion project of the Tamale Airport into an international airport.

In view of this, Mr. Ametor Quarme stated that the Mahama government will render a vivid account, come 2016 to prove to Ghanaians the worth of the cedi.

“We will compare their (NPP’s) record to our record…Let them say anything about the cedi. We all admit that we have problems with the cedi. But when you compare the rate of exchange in 2000 to 2008, you will know that the cedi has always depreciated. But in 2016, we will all render an account.

“Then the cedi that you have always argued to be in tatters; we will show you what we have used the cedi to do in Ghana," he crowed.
