GII demands WC c’ssion re-invites Afriyie-Ankrah over feeding "fraud"

The Ghana Integrity Initiative is demanding that former Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah be re-invited by the Commission investigating Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup.

The call follows revelations that caterers taken to the tournament were paid 35 dollars daily for feeding each fan instead of 34 Ghana Cedis agreed before the start of the tournament.

The World Cup Grounds, Events and Logistics sub-committee chairman, Horace Ankrah, was taken on by the Presidential commission for failing to explain the discrepancy.

Programs Officer for the anti-graft body Mary Addah speaking to Starr News stated that the revelation at the commission amounts to fraud and must not go unpunished.

“The former Youth and Sports Minister must be called back to respond to that question. It is time for people who are put in authority to stop taking people for a ride...

“This is money that should have gone into schools, healthcare; that have been so much misappropriated...we are very happy that the commission is beginning to reveal this.”
