I'll deal with journo assailants - Graphic boss warns

The Managing Director of the Graphic communications group, Kenneth Ashigbey, has threatened to "make life uncomfortable" for people who abuse journalists in their line of duty.

The warning from the Graphic boss comes on the heels of the attack on the Daily Graphic’s Ashanti Regional correspondent, Daniel Kenu, by some macho men led by Baffour Gyan, big brother of Black Stars’ skipper Asamoah Gyan on Friday.

The assault on Kenu by Baffour followed a near attack against the same journalist by Asamoah Gyan at the Miklin hotel during a press conference by the Ghana Football Association, after which he (Kenu) gave the skipper an interview opportunity to clear the air about rumours that he sacrificed hiplife artiste Castro for spiritual purposes while the two went on holidays at Ada in June.

Incensed by the conduct of the Gyans’, Ashigbey wrote in an article on his personal website: “ I intend to make life uncomfortable for anybody who physically assaults any of our media people. My efforts will extend beyond the staff of the Graphic Communications Group Limited to include all media men and women in the country."

He added “For me, any attack on one media person is an attack on all of us, and we will use all legitimate means to ensure that it stops. This is a notice to all concerned that we will protect our highly esteemed journalists.”

The Graphic boss also urged media men who are attacked to report the matter to him personally.

Baffour was subsequently arrested by the Ashanti regional police command but has since been granted bail after signing a bond of good conduct.
