AFCON Group G: Egypt humbled by Senegal

A comprehensive first half performance from Senegal saw them down Egypt 2-0 on Friday night.
First half goals from Mame Diouf and Sadio Mane handed Senegal the three points in their Group G African Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Stade Leopold Sedar in Dakar.
The pace of the Senegal attack caused problems for the Egyptian defence from the word go with the likes of Mame Diouf really giving them headaches.
Dame Ndoye in particular was very threatening in attack and it would be two passes from him in the opening half that would be the downfall of Egypt.
The first real attempt on goal came in the 16th minute when Dame Ndoye tried his luck from long range, but he was thwarted by the acrobatics of the Egyptian goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy.
A minute later, however, and there was nothing Sherif Ekramy could do to prevent the opening goal when a pin-point pass from Dame Ndoye saw Mame Diouf through on goal and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 1-0.
Egypt really struggled to hold onto the ball for sustained periods of play in the opening half and were punished for the second time only seconds before the half time break.
Dame Ndoye provided his second assist of the game with another defence splitting pass that saw Sadio Mane through on goal this time and he too showed himself to be clinical with just the keeper to beat, 2-0. The second half saw Egypt playing some better football as they chased the game.
The away side’s first decent effort on goal came ten minutes after the restart when some swift lay saw Mohamed Salah in space 16-yards out, but he fired narrowly over the target.
Egypt continued to press forward, but struggled to break down a stubborn Senegal defence and consequently had to shoot from long range with very little effect.
In the end, Senegal held on for a comfortable win.
