Success won’t come on a silver platter - Mahama tells youth

Ghana’s President has told his country’s youth to ditch any sense of entitlement they may harbour, since nobody can craft their future and destiny but them, adding, their success will not come out of the blue without hard work.

“You have to fight to take the destiny that God has given you because if you sit back and think that it will be brought to you on a silver platter, it won’t happen”, John Mahama said when he delivered a keynote address as the Guest of Honour at the launch of an autobiography titled: ‘Destiny of a Horse Boy’ authored by legal practitioner Ibrahim Mahama.

“Your life is in your own hands, your destiny is in your own hands”, Mahama stressed.

He observed that many young Ghanaians “are very laid back and hoping that somebody will call them and put their destinies in their hands”, emphasising that: “You can make life what you want it to be…fight and establish” your own destiny.

The author Ibrahim Mahama, a former Legislator for Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, served in the government of the National Liberation Council until 1968 and stood as a presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Front in Ghana’s 1979 elections.

He is a member of the royal family of the Dagbon Kingdom and became the solicitor and legal advisor to King Ta-Na Yakubu II and served him until 2002.
