WC Probe: Non-players took home $82,500 – MOYS clarifies

Ghana’s Ministry for Youth and Sports has clarified that each member of the Black Stars management committee pocketed $82,500 and not $100,000 as appearance fees for the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

Appearing before the Presidential Commission probing the West African nation’s participation at the just ended global football showpiece in Brazil, the Chief Accountant for the Sports Ministry Prosper Akpasu stated that aside the $100,000 pocketed by the 23 players as appearance fees each member of the seven-man technical team also took home $100,000 contrary to the approved amount of $82,500 by Ghana's Cabinet before departing for Brazil.

It emerged at the three-member Dzamefe Commission on Thursday that apart from the 23 players of the Black Stars squad, members of the management team also pocketed $100,000 as appearance fees.

However, on Friday, the Chief Accountant clarified that statement, which was made by the Chief Director Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu, that it was rather the technical team including coach Kwesi Appiah that took home $100,000 whiles the management team earned $82,500 as appearance fees.

The commission has since adjourned its sitting to Monday August 18th. s
