Six-year-old boy needs GH¢8,000 to undergo surgery

Dr Michael Amoah, a Paediatric Surgeon at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi, has appealed to the public to support a six-year-old boy to undergo definitive surgery.

Magid Karim, a resident of Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District of Brong-Ahafo Region, urgently needs GH?8,000 to undergo the surgery-colonic bypass-replacing the structured esophagus with the colon.

A letter of appeal, signed by Dr Amoah, a specialist surgeon, and made available to Ghana News Agency on Wednesday, indicated that Karim was diagnosed with esophageal stricture (narrowing of the esophagus) after he drank caustic soda.

“This has rendered the patient unable to swallow food,” Dr Amoah said, explaining that a tube had been inserted into his stomach via the abdominal wall and surgery had to be performed as soon as possible.
