Minister petitions Canadian High Commission to grant visas

Ghana sports Minister, Hon Mahama Ayariga says he has written a letter to the Canadian High Commission expressing concern about the reported cases of visa rejection by the embassy.

Mass rebuff of visa application from Ghanaian football lovers who were planning to travel and support Ghana at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup were cast off by the Canadian embassy which has ultimately led to the fans preparing for a heavy demonstration to the Canadian embassy today.

In an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, the sector Minister indicated that he has communicated with the Canadian high Commission to consider visa applicants who meet their requirements.

“I have heard media reports of mass rejection of visas. I have written to the high commission expressing concern about the reported cases of mass rejection of visa applications that came to the high commission,” he said.

“I did that because I have not heard them publicly refute the claims that are contained in the media reports and I believe that the letter that I have written to the high commission draws the attention to the need to be fair to everybody who applies for a visa”.

The Minister went on to signify that he has asked the Canadian High Commission not to relate the situation to the alleged issue of 200 Ghanaian asylum seekers at the World Cup in Brazil.

“The unfairness that will be occasioned if they allow the reported cases of asylum seeking in Brazil to this proportionately to influence them on their ruling as to whether or not to issue entry visas to Ghanaians who apply for visas into Canada” he added.

The Black Princesses will play the host Canada in the first game of the competition tomorrow in Toronto at exactly 12:00am local time.
