President Mahama leaves for USA today

President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina will today August 1, pay a 10-day official visit to the United States.

President Mahama will be attending US African Leaders Summit on August 5- August 7, while the First Lady in collaboration with Mrs Obama, US First Lady would be engaged in programmes bothering on girl-child and under development in Africa.

Mr Ben Dotsei Malor, Head of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson at the Flagstaff House, who announced this at the a Media briefing at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region said President Mahama would also be signing the second compact with the Millennium

Challenge Corporation, worth more than half a million dollars to be devoted to power and the energy sector.

He said the acquisition of the financial facility will also ensure the delivery of safe, reliable and secured power to Ghanaians to spur economic growth and create other opportunities.

Mr Malor said more than $300 million of the facility will be used for the modernisation of utilities such as; Electricity Company of Ghana and Northern Electricity Distribution Company.

He said another aspect of the second compact titled Access Project would ensure that $10 million would be dedicated to the expansion of electricity access to medium and small-scale enterprises to result in the upgrading of infrastructure and the enhancement of social inclusiveness.

President Mahama will be accompanied by Ministers of state and other experts in various affected Ministries.
