Esoko Market Watch Week: Groundnut price falls

Prices for a bag of groundnut in the second week of June experienced downward adjustment in some markets.

The commodity fell in both Techiman and Takoradi markets by 9 percentage points to close the week at GHS320.00 respectively.

In Kumasi the commodity recorded its highest loss of 22 per cent to close the week at GHS 280.00 from last week’s GHS360.00. On the retail market, a kilo of groundnut gain 15 per cent in Accra and was sold for GHS5.20.

However, it saw a reduction of 10 per cent on the Techiman market to close the week at GHS 4.50.

Market watchers are saying the reduction in prices is due to the commodity getting moldy and so traders wanting to sell off.

Fresh tomatoes price goes up

Tomatoes price saw hikes this week.

Prices of the 52kg crate of tomato went up.

In Accra and Bawku, the commodity increased by 6 and 7 per cent moving the prices from GHS 340.00 to GHS360.00 and GHS75.00 to GHS80.00 respectively per crate.

It lost a point in Techiman to close at GHS188.00.

Furthermore, in the Takoradi market, the commodity rose sharply to close the week at GHS 400.00 representing an increase of 33 per cent.

In the retail market, a kilo of tomato gain 6 per cent in Accra to close at GHS7.11, 13 per cent in Takoradi to close at GHS9 and 25 per cent in Bawku to close at GHS2.50.

It however lost 10 per cent in Techiman to close at GHS4.50.
