Agona Assembly adopts measures to increase revenue

The Agona East District Assembly has adopted a number of measures to improve its internal Revenue Generation, to finance more development projects to improve the lot of the people.

The measures include registration of all artisanal businesses, outsourcing of revenue to reputed private companies, and the setting of targets for revenue officers in the district.

Mr Martin Luther Obeng, District Chief Executive (DCE) made this known when he addressed the first Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth session of the Second Assembly at Nsaba in the Agona East district of the Central Region.

He said the Assembly “requires a lot of vigilance and commitment on the part of the revenue collectors to rope everyone into the tax basket,” DCE said. Mr Obeng stated that the economy of the district has not been in the best shape for some time now, and needs a boost to improve the living conditions of people.

He announced that 25 communities have been added to communities with good sources of drinking water with the sinking of more bole-holes across the district by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency.

Mr Obeng said the Small Water Project has provided for Kenyanko, Duotu, Fahwia, Fante Bawjiase and other surrounding communities to reduce water-borne diseases.

According to the DCE, the pipe-borne water extension from Mankrong-Junction to Otabilkwaa is on course, to ensure the provision of safety and standards drinking water.

The DCE announced that Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) will resume operation in the district in September thus academic year, to promote girl-child education in the area.

Mr Samuel Zigah, Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly, appealed to members of the Assembly to forget about their political affiliations and help push the socio-economic advancement of the district forward.
