Ashaiman to establish beads centre

The SOS Children’s Village Ghana in collaboration with the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) is to establish a beads centre in Ashaiman.

Mr Charles Cobbina, SOS Business Development Advisor, said the centre would position Ashaiman as the preferred choice for royal beads. According to Mr Cobbina, Ashaiman had a potential market for beads and promoting the interest of beads makers would help women and the youth in the area to earn a decent living.

He said the centre would also train people in bead making, fashion designing, shoemaking, catering, wire sculpture among others and that a beads bazaar of international standard would be organized in the Municipality on June 28, to prepare for the establishment of the centre.

Mr Cobbina said the Ashaiman International Beads Bazaar, which would be on the theme, “Beads making as an avenue for the growth of Ashaiman”, would position Ashaiman as a municipality for beads and creative products.

Mr Joshua Asihene, Coordinating Director of ASHMA, said there was the need to create jobs in Ashaiman to match the municipality’s population growth. He said the Assembly would continue to partner non-governmental organizations and civil society groups to create more employment for the people of Ashaiman.

Naa Amui, Queen Mother of Ashaiman, said as a bead-maker herself, she would ensure that the youth got good tutorship in bead making. She called on all parents to take advantage of the centre when established to get a vocation for their children.
