Education Director calls for strict financial regulations

Dr George Adjei-Henne, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Education has advised educational stakeholders to follow strict financial regulations to avoid discrepancies and lapses in their accounting systems.

He said failure by accounting staff and procurement committees in some second cycle institutions to ensure proper accounting procedures and rules in recent years had caused them to appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament to respond to queries.

Dr Adjei-Hene gave the advice on Tuesday at Abesim, near Sunyani during a sensitization workshop for Ghana Education Service (GES) Cost Centre Managers and other stakeholders from the Sunyani Municipality and the Sunyani-West District on proper financial management in Second Cycle schools.

The one-day workshop was the first for nine designated zones in the Brong-Ahafo Region under the auspices of the Regional Education Directorate.

Other participants were managers of education units, internal auditors, Directors of Education, education accountants, Parent/Teacher Association chairs and schools’ Board of Governors chairs.

Dr Adjei-Hene urged participants to avoid late responses to queries and also called for team work to ensure clarity and financial best practices in schools.
