Senchi Economic Forum report ready

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on Wednesday confirmed that the government had completed the full report on the Senchi Economic Forum and would publish it next week.

Consequently, the government has also put in place a matrix of actions to guide ministries that are to manage its implementation. He said this during an interaction with the media at the Flagstaff House in Accra on Wednesday.

The interaction with the media was to clarify certain misconception that the government had delayed publishing the Senchi Economic Forum report as it promised. Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the report had been submitted to the chairpersons and facilitators of the various groups at the Forum for their comments after which the report would be presented to the President.

He said the government was not just going for short term fix but looking for fundamental solution to the country’s economic challenges. “We promised a full and comprehensive report from Senchi and that is exactly what we are going to do,” he said.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur also said important aspects of the Senchi Forum were the set of actions that were going to flow from it which had to be monitored. He said the late Mr P.V. Obeng, who was responsible for Group Six as well as the implementation of post-Senchi meeting, unfortunately passed on two days after the forum.

He said because the demise of the late Mr Obeng, who was also the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and part of the economic management team, had a certain grasp of the issues and that those replacing him would take some time to adjust.

The Vice President said the NDPC has been nominated as the government agency responsible for monitoring the Senchi report after which it would incorporate it into the Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda (GSGDA) II document.

He said even though the New Patriotic Party refused to take part in the Senchi Forum the government would still welcome contributions from groups that would provide useful suggestions to help improve the management of the economy.
