Unemployed graduates worried over AGI's freeze on employment

The Unemployed Graduate Association of Ghana (UGAG) is worried about the decision of members of the Association of Ghana Industries not to employ workers for the next six months.

According to AGI employment levels will remain the same for the next six months due to current economic challenges.

Speaking to XYZ News the CEO of AGI Seth Twum Akwaboah said the rising inflation, high taxes; and the increasing depreciation of the cedi among others have crippled businesses.

This he says has forced the businesses to suspend employments. Mr. Akwaboah stated that the formal sector will only compromise their stands if government puts in place pragmatic measures to address the issue

But members of UGAG are worried about the signal and want civil society groups and the churches to join in calling for the reversal of the decision.

Convener of the association Bennett Otieku Boadu says government must get serious with tackling current economic challenges to provide enough jobs for the youth
