STMA signs contract for six infrastructural projects

The Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) on Friday signed a performance contract with six contractors to begin various infrastructural projects in Sekondi - Takoradi under the Urban Development Grant (UDG).

The six contracts which are expected to be completed in eight months include the Metropolitan Health Administration block, two-storey eight unit classroom block with library, office, storeroom and toilet facilities at boundary road in Sekondi.

Others are six unit classroom block with library, storeroom and toilet facilities at Sofokrom, health post at East Tanokrom, library complex, eight unit classroom block with library, office, store room and toilet facility for Collins avenue STMA primary and Kindergarten in Takoradi.

Captain RTD Anthony Cudjoe, the Metropolitan Chief Executive said UDG was introduced by government as part of efforts to improve the performance of the district assemblies in terms of efficiency, accountability and delivery of basic community services.

Under the UDG system, various assemblies are assessed on agreed indicators on yearly basis and the best performing assembly rewarded with financial resources. Captain RTD Cudjoe said the STMA in 2011 scored 85 percent and was allocated an amount of over two million Ghana cedis.

The Assembly is also considering purchasing a back hoefor waste management and the construction of a fish smoking and processing facility. Captain RTD Cudjoe entreated the contractors to execute the contract in due time and avoid shoddy works.

Mr. Charles Oscar Welbeck of JINS Company on behalf of the contractors assured the assembly of best performance to enable the public benefit from the projects.
