Jake insists Akufo-Addo won 2012 election

National Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey says his party’s 2012 presidential candidate won the last election.

“I believe in terms of numbers we won the last elections but there were certain things that we did not do right; we didn’t get right [and so] we didn’t have a declaration for us,” Mr Obetsebi Lamptey told XYZ Breakfast Show host Moro Awudu on Tuesday.

In his view, the Supreme Court hearing of the election petition filed by himself, flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, exposed ample evidence that the pendulum should have swung in the NPP’s favour.

The court, in August 2013, upheld President John Mahama’s victory after a long drawn hearing.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was defeated in 2008 by President John Mills (late) and in 2012 by President John Mahama, recently declared his intention to run for the presidency again.
