GBA: Manage economy in a non-partisan manner

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has called for the economy of Ghana to be managed in a non-political and impartial manner for the good of the people.

It attributed the problems of the country to the lack of consensus among politicians on topical national issues, particularly the economy.

Speaking to The Ghanaian Times in an interview in Accra on Monday, the President of the association, Nene Amegatcher, said this is the time for us to call on all stakeholders not to disregard the views that other people who are knowledgeable in the economy may give.”

“The Ghana Bar Association wants the economy to be managed in an impartial manner for the good of all. We want all people, irrespective of their political affiliation to come together, and that is why government, at the end of an election, should put all politics aside and say that we are one country. We have only one president, he is not a president for one political party; he is for all of us; let’s bring views and ideas from all together and all hands on deck.

“That is the only way out, but if we are going to play the politics [of] we are right, you are wrong, then forget it; Ghana is not going to see any improvement in the economy.”

Nene Amegatcher stressed that the GBA wanted the economy to be managed in such a way that, those who are playing the political game would not draw Ghanaians into the debate of “who is right or wrong”.

Nene Amegatcher recalled that the Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, gave a lecture on the state of the economy; saying, “my understanding is that the government is also going to get its people to come out with a counter back.”

The GBA President told The Ghanaian Times that: “This is what is killing this country up to date, and the Ghana Bar Association will not be part if it.”

He noted that Ghana's politicians need to come together and involve people who are knowledgeable in economic management to manage the economy.
