French Ambassador meets with officials in Kumasi

French Ambassador Frédéric Clavier travelled to Kumasi on February 3rd and 4th, 2014, to pay a courtesy call to some Ghanaian’s officials. The purpose of his visit was to maintain and enhance cooperation and partnership between Ghana and France.

He first met with the deputy minister of Ashanti region, Hon. Samuel Yaw Adusei, and discussed about the infrastructures challenges in the region, especially housing, health and education challenges, as well as securing energy supply which is one of the region’s priorities for 2014-2015. When meeting with the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief, Hon. Kojo Bonsu, the French government has been thanked for its development support through the Agence Francaise de Développement (AFD), which has a long standing relationship with Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). AFD has financed several projects here in Kumasi. Key among these are the Sokoban Wood Village which has relocated the wood workers to a more convenient venue; the Kumasi Bypass which has extended the road from Anloga Junction to Ahodwo Roundabout greatly improving the flow of traffic in the area and the UESP2 Project which extended the Aboabo Storm Drain reducing flooding in the affect communities. AFD is currently financing the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Project (GUMPP) of 40.5 M€ in four cities including KMA.

The French Ambassador met also with KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Prof William Etoo Elis. This latest thanked the French Cooperation and Cultural Service for its recent session of Mathematics doctoral school, in January 2014, led by three French mathematics teacher-researchers and expressed his appreciation for the study mission from the French University Paris Sud in the coming week, to establish a partnership with KNUST.
