Frimpong sees red on Barnsley debut

Emmanuel Frimpong is making headlines for all the wrong reasons again after a disastrous debut for Barnsley.

Speaking to the press following his move, the 22-year-old midfielder said “How am I gonna draw girls now?”, which suggested his biggest concern was meeting women in South Yorkshire. But staying on the pitch may prove a bigger challenge for the midfielder.

The Ghanian received two yellow cards inside half an hour and was correctly sent off by referee Andre Marriner.

Frimpong was once one of the bright young hopes of the Arsenal academy. He first featured in the Premier League at the age of 19, as a sub against Newcastle in August 2011. And a few days later he featured in the Gunners' Champions League clash against Italian side Udinese.

His full debut followed later that month against Liverpool and in a precursor to what happened in Sheffield he saw red that day too.

Frimpong’s career at the Emirates never took off after that and loan spells at Wolves, Charlton and Fulham have followed. Finally, with only six appearances to his name at Arsenal, he has headed for Barnsley for a fresh start under Danny Wilson.
