GH¢320m recouped by Presidential Special Task Force at country’s ports

The Presidential Special Operations Task Force has so far recouped GH¢320 million for the state by virtue of its operations at the country's ports, a member of the Force has disclosed.

Dr Clement Apaak, who is also a Presidential Staffer, announced that the decongestion exercise being carried out has also been intensified to save the country from losing millions of Cedis.

He was speaking on TV3’s News @10 on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.

He mentioned that the work of the task force has been going on as scheduled and already companies and individuals who have been found to be cheating the system have been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

“That is a project being handled by the CID,” he told presenter Kenneth Osei Ampofo.

He pointed out that the task force has been working closely with the revenue-generating state agencies in its operations.

“The need of the task force is not to suggest that the agencies are not doing their work,” he observed.

“The role of the task force is to complement the system,” he stressed.

The Presidential Special Task Force was set up last year by President John Mahama to check activities of corrupt officers at the country’s ports.
