First 50 new Senior High Schools still underway – Mahama

The president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has assured the execution of the 2012 campaign promise of building 200 new senior high schools in selected districts of the country.

Marking his first anniversary of office as President of Ghana, President Mahama met with some selected media persons for a question and answer session about his administration at the Flagstaff House.

The president said the delay of the promise of building the first 50 out of 200 senior high schools in his first year of office was structural considering the process of selecting the districts to benefit from the initiative.

He said the criteria for the selection of the districts to benefit from the initiative was to consider newly created districts first before existing districts without senior high schools.

Also, districts that already had senior high schools but under a lot of pressure would be selected.

President Mahama added that site clearing is underway at the moment and hopefully the first 50 schools would be built in time.

Answering a question about the promise of a second National Theatre in Kumasi, the President indicated that the commencement of the building would start soon as Turkish Exim Bank has undertaken studies of the area earmarked for the project and are working on the architectural drawings for the building.

He also outlined the building of aerodromes in Cape Coast, Bolgatanga, Sunyani among other towns to support the quick transfer of people in critical conditions by air when the need arises.

He added that he is in his first year of his four year term and that promises made by his administration are not empty.
