Tonaton now the biggest classifieds website in Ghana

Tonaton.com is now the largest online classifieds website in Ghana, making it the 4th biggest local website according to Alexa.com. Since the launch in April, Tonaton.com has been visited by over 2.4 million unique visitors. This confirms Tonaton.com’s status as one of the fastest growing websites in Ghana.

It can be confirm that as at October 21, 2013, the biggest competitor to Tonaton.com, Google Trader had dispatched emails to their users that effective November 11, the site will no longer be available for posting new advert or reposting existing advert. All adverts were to remain on the site till they reach the expiry period after which they will no longer be available.

When reached for their comment on this development, Tonaton.com officials commented that the website has put in a lot effort in getting to where it is now. Their foremost competitive advantage amongst others is that they have a customer support team in Ghana, which manually reviews all the adverts that are posted on the site. This has helped to keep a clean inventory and to keep up the fight against fraudsters who invade online websites to perpetuate fraud on the general public.



One of Tonaton’s main features is the sorting of advert according to geographical areas and prices, allowing for easy browsing and locating of goods and services at the consumer’s preferred price and area.

With this easy to use interface and hassle free posting system, Tonaton.com has drawn more than 101,000 classified adverts since it entered the Ghana market. The value of these advert is estimated at GH¢3, 065, 167, 666 ($ 1,374,514,648) which represents about 3.2% of GDP. Ghana’s GDP is estimated at $42.4 billion according to the IMF.
