Govt sends GIPC Boss, MASLOC PRO, 11 others to witness World Cup draw

Pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has condemned the decision by the Sports and Youth Ministry to sponsor a 13-member delegation to witness the FIFA World Cup draw in Brazil.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup draw would be held in Salvador, Brazil on Friday December 6.

According to the group, the expenditure for the trip is profligate and unnecessary since a smaller delegation could have been better.

The Ghanaian delegation includes the Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the GFA President, Kwesi Nyantekyi, his Vice Fred Crentsil, GFA Communications Director Ibrahim Sanni Daara and Black Stars Coach Kwesi Appiah, GFA General Secretary Emmanuel Gyimah and GFA Committee Member George Afriyie.

The rest are Member of Parliament Tamale Central Dahami Alhassan, the Public Relations Officer for MASLOC Mustapha Abubakari, Mrs. Mawuena Terbrah CEO of GIPC, GFA Management member, Hon. Yaw Boakye Gyan, and NPP MP for Nabdam Hon. Boniface Gambilla.

Ghana’s delegation of 13 persons is the biggest from Africa and among the world delegation going for the trip.

Director for AFAG, Davis Opoku speaking to XYZ News said such unnecessary spending contributes to the high government deficit which needs tackling.

Ghana would discover who they face in the group stages after the draw is completed on Friday.
