Detained Tobinco CEO to spend the night in cells

XYZ can report that the detained Chief Executive Officer of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Samuel Tobin, will spend the night in cells at the Nima Police station in the national capital, Accra.

Mr Tobin was arrested Monday afternoon by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) after honouring an invitation.

Reasons for his arrest are yet to be made clear by the Ghana Police Service but his detention is speculated to be in connection with investigations into his company’s importation of fake drugs into the country.

Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have been engaged in a media spat over the former's importation of alleged fake drugs which have been confiscated by the regulator.

Workers of the pharmaceutical giant organised a nationwide fasting and prayer sessions last week to ward-off what they described as evil attacks on the company.

The regulator has ordered the closure of all warehouses belonging to Tobinco, a measure they claim will prevent the distribution of the fake drugs.

Tobinco is convinced the action by the FDA is nothing but witch hunting.

They have proceeded to the courts for redress and have petitioned the president to intervene.
