Energy Minister on official visit to Japan

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on Wednesday left Accra for Tokyo on an official visit.

The visit, aimed at deepening ties between Ghana and Japan, is at the invitation of the Japanese government, following President John Mahama’s earlier visit to Japan and the meetings between the Minister and Japanese government officials at the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) in Yokohama this year.

The Minister will meet Japanese businessmen and visit some power plant facilities as well as some refineries. He will also pay visits to the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

Mr Buah’s tour will also take him to a Thermal Power Plant and LNG Facility, operated by TEPCO at Chiba, Oil Refinery Plant and LNG Facility at Yokohama and the Osaka Gas and Energy Museum.

He will as well visit a Thermal Power Plant Facility at Isogo, meet with some Japanese private companies and pay a courtesy call on the officials of the Agency for Natural Resource and Energy of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Also on the Minister’s itinerary is a visit to Mitsui, Sojitz Corporation and Sumitomo Group.

The Minister, who was accompanied by some officials of the Ministry, was confident that the visit will yield results and draw foreign investments into the country’s energy sector.
