Indigenous agro processing company wins awards

Hords Limited, a leading agro processing company, has won two awards at the maiden edition of Ghana Made Products Award in Accra. The company’s Soyabetix product won the Emerging Product of the Year, while Hords Spray Starch also won the Laundry Product of the Year.

The awards, organised by the Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana (EFG), on the theme: “Patronizing Ghana Made Products, the Gateway to Economic Development,” is a platform for Ghanaian consumers to patronize Ghana made products. It also seeks to expose indigenous Ghanaian products to the rest of the country in order to create awareness and build product loyalty.

Mr Sam Ato Gaisie, Founder of EFG, said the awards would encourage local industries to make significant improvement in product excellence and innovation in order to meet the needs of both the local and international markets.

Mr Harold Otabil, Chief Executive Officer of Hords Limited, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the awards were a clear demonstration of the high level of confidence and patronage enjoyed by the company’s products.

He said the level of interest shown in the company’s products locally and internationally indicated that Ghanaian products could succeed if the consumer was guaranteed quality.

Mr Otabil said Hords Limited would continue to work hard to ensure that its products were found on shelves of shopping centres throughout the world.

“The Natural Soyabetix and Cocobetix are the latest flagship products of the company, meant to address the high sugar levels of diabetic patients,” he said.

He said though the products were relatively new, they were enjoying significant patronage because they had been effective in addressing the needs of diabetic patients.

He said their domestic cleaning products were manufactured with the consumer in mind, a philosophy which had led to repeated patronage. Mr Otabil said there would be a massive expansion drive in order to increase production of its range of products and create more jobs for the teaming youth coming out of school.

He urged organisers of the Ghana Made Products Awards to ensure that the platform they had created succeeded in placing Ghanaian products on the world map.
