Nunoo-Mensah did Ghana good but... - Appiah Ofori

A former Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah-Ofori has personally commended Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah (rtd) for building a nine-unit classroom block for O’Reilly Senior High School.

However, comments passed by Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah during the occasion, attracted Mr. Appiah Ofori's strong condemnation. The Brigadier-General stirred controversy when he bluntly told government to suspend salaries of striking workers.

The retired soldier warned workers who had issues with government pertaining to their salary disparities, to pick up their passports and get out of the country if they cannot stand the heat in the kitchen.

As if that was not controversial enough, General Nunoo-Mensah, responding to calls on him to render an apology to Ghanaian workers and to also resign, accused the opposition New Patriotic Party of being behind the recent labour unrest.

But in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, Hon. Appiah Ofori described the comment by General Nunoo-Mensah as terrible and went on to jab him for alleging that NPP was behind the recent strike actions.

According to him, such damning comments by Nunoo-Mensah could only incite the public against the current government.

Hon. Appiah Ofori explained that per Nunoo-Mensah’s comment, he would not be wrong to say that the NDC fuelled strike actions that took place during the tenure of ex-President Kufuor. He noted that it is highly impossible for any political group to drive labour unions to team up against government by embarking on strikes.
