New Juaben Assembly to track tax evaders

The New Juaben Municipal Assembly has vowed to track all businesses whose operators evade taxes in the Municipality.

Mr Korzie Sambo, Municipal Coordinating Director, said this on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ forum on the 2014 fees and rates fixing in Koforidua.

He said the Assembly has identified many businesses which were not paying taxes and had put in place systems to capture all of them into the tax net.

Mr Sambo, however, appealed to the public, especially, business organisations in the Municipality to help the Assembly to locate and identify such entities to make them pay their taxes.

Participants at the forum, mainly representatives of business groups, noted that many people were operating unregistered or unlicensed but lucrative businesses in the area and yet they evaded tax payments.

They called on the Assembly to ensure that all business entities being run by individuals in the Municipality honour all tax obligations to ensure fairness.

The forum was organised by the Assembly to discuss the new budgeting system which conforms to the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and is in line with the Public Financial Management policy.

It was the second in a series being organized to dialogue with the stakeholders who include trade groups, business association, property owners and management of the Assembly.
