ACEP congratulates appointees to GNPC, NPA

The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), an energy policy think-tank has congratulated Mr Alex Mould and Mr Moses Asaga for their appointments as Managing Director of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) respectively.

A release made available to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Mr John Peter Amewu, Director of Policy and Research, said the two institutions were crucial for the sustainable development of the economy and required a leadership with higher level of integrity and professionalism.

The release praised Mr Mould for supervising reforms in the downstream sector and successfully bringing the petroleum market to a self-sustaining level as former CEO of NPA.

It said some challenges remained to be addressed by Mr Asaga including boosting the confidence of consumers in petroleum pricing regime.

The release noted that the symmetrical relationship between setting prices of petroleum products and price compensation resulting from the rise and fall of international crude oil prices should be religiously upheld in all directions.

It urged the NPA to adhere to the official product content specifications to reflect the average standards within the sub-region in relation to sulphur and lead levels in imported gasoline and gasoil due to its toxic and public health concerns.

The release commended the former CEO of GNPC, Mr Asafo Adjei for his role in helping to transform the organization and expressed the hope that the incoming CEO would continue the transformational processes.

It suggested that GNPC enlists on the Ghana Stock Exchange and seek partnerships through open and competitive bidding processes to increase accountability and investor confidence.
