NDC salute Ghanaians on founder’s day

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to extend its warmest greetings to all Ghanaians on the occasion of the founder’s day. The day was named after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President.

We pay glowing tributes to the memory of the founder of this nation, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, for his toil, traverse and commitment to the cause of humanity.

The NDC salute him for giving us the nation state called Ghana. He remains ingrained in our minds, hearts and through his visible achievements during the period of his sojourn on earth. Osagyefo Dr. Nkrumah was an accomplished visionary and freedom fighter, and was deservingly credited as the motivating force behind Ghana’s struggle and attainment of true independence from the British colonial dominance in 1957.

Osagyefo had a passion for African liberation and indeed led in the struggle that paved the way for the other African countries to fight and attain their independence. His efforts and dream for continental unity is said to have spurred on African leaders’ during the African Union’s (AU) 13th Ordinary Summit in Sirte, Libya to recognize September 21, which is also Osagyefo Dr. Nkrumah’s birthday, on AU’s calendar of Special Events.

The NDC which shares in his philosophy of social democracy shall continue to pursue his laudable ideas, plans and hold aloft ideals that will keep his memories evergreen.

We are note oblivious of the unsuccessful attempt by his political adversaries to obliterate the singular and monumental role that Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah played in the formation of the new state called Ghana. This is quite regrettable as discerning people the world over acknowledge his invaluable role in the fight against colonialism.

As a major political organization in this country, the NDC through its former leader and President, John Evans Atta Mills recognized him as the founder of Ghana and will continue to immortalize his memory. This is in recognition of Osagyefo Dr. Nkrumah’s role in political and socio economic developments of Ghana. The NDC, on this special occasion urges all Ghanaians both home and the Diaspora to renew our commitment to patriotism and unity as a springboard to the consolidation of the gains of political stability, social and economic development that Ghana has enviably chalked within the continent and beyond. This should spur us on in our quest to attain the Better Ghana Agenda that the NDC government is vigorously pursuing.

Long live Ghana. Long live Osagyefo’s memory.
