NPP: Paul Afoko eyes Jake’s job

Businessman Paul Afoko, who is also a leading member of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is staking a claim for the chairmanship position of the party.

Mr. Afoko will be fighting incumbent Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey for the slot.

Mr. Afoko, who is widely perceived as a pro-Alan Kyeremanten person, says he intends to re-invigorate the party with his leadership.

He told Radio XYZ’s Midday News Anchor, Farida Khailann, in an interview on Wednesday that the current crop of executives have done their best and must give way to a new crop of leaders.

The NPP founder member denied suspicions that he is eyeing the slot so as to prepare the grounds for former Trades Minister Alna Kyeremanten, to become presidential candidate for the 2016 elections.

He says he is not coming into office with a preconceived notion of who leads the NPP into the 2016 general elections.
