Asantehene’s bribery slur is the position of NPP

A member of the Communications Team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being behind the bribery publication ostensibly to undermine the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Brogya Gyamfi, in his assertion, indicated that the issue of bribery relating to the 2012 election petition was long established by the NPP, alleging that some of the Justices have been induced with money to adjudicate the case in a certain direction.

Speaking on the issue on Okay fm, the NDC communicator said that these allegations of corrupt judgment were widely propagated in the social media by NPP elements that the Justices have been bought even before the verdict was read out.

He added that it is strange the NPP have now issued a press statement to condemn the publication after Manhyia Palace has come out to deny the bribery allegation; insisting that NPP have been enjoying the story until the chiefs from the Ashanti Kingdom came out to issue a strong statement about the allegation.

Portions of the controversial New Free Press publication after the Supreme Court pronounced judgment on the election petition case reads; “The New Free Press is not surprise about the decision of the Supreme Court to dismiss the petition before it concerning the 2012 general election. Anyone who was discerning could see that the Justices led by Justice William Atuguba were not interested in the fact and evidence before it. They spent time deviating from the case and giving cover for the respondents while ridiculing the petitioners”.

To the NDC communicator, after a thorough assessment of the publication, he is strongly inclined to believe “this is the position of the NPP and nobody can tell me that this is not the position of the NPP”.

“…the NPP should have treated the Asantehene bribery allegation with the same contempt it deserves…they should have held a press conference in defense of Otumfuo Osei Tutu just as the Supreme Court Justice Anin-Yeboah who was criticized on his trend of ruling on the 2012 election petition was defended,” Brogya Gyamfi opined.
